The book includes ten chapters, an introduction and conclusions. The chronology of these chapters is in keeping with caesuras commonly used in Polish historiography. Chapter one presents Polish restitution efforts and losses of polish cultural property in Russian Wars, during the Commonwealth of the Two Nations (up to 1795). The fate of Polish cultural property during the partitions period (1795–1914) and the search for them are described in chapter two. The next chapter (three) presents Polish restitution measures taken by the 1914–1921 (by the Treaty of Riga). The next chapter (four) presents Polish restitution measures taken by the 2nd Polish Republic (1921–1939), and chapter five describes the losses caused during World War II and recovery attempts of Polish authorities. The last two chapters are related to the post-war period. In chapter six, the author’s attention is focused on the activities undertaken by the authorities of People’s Republic of Poland and by Polish cultural institutions aimed at reclaiming cultural property seized by Germans during the war, as well as their revendication or re-evacuation from soviet occupation zones of Germany and Austria (1945–1949), and USSR (1945–1991). Part of this chapter is also devoted to the reproduction of archive resources from other countries. Chapter nine concentrates on the negotiations of Polish authorities after 1991 with Poland’s neighboring countries (Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine). A discursive paper – Polish Restitution Plans – constitutes the final part of the book. An overview of the results of research and queries is presented in the final remarks. Poland, without any exaggeration of the property rights which have been lost during the centuries and also during World War I and World War II for culture treasures – has been implementing first of all the concept of "the world cultural heritage” – based on mutual care for the preservation of the world treasures and also the access to them (including the exposition form) for the wide range of the people interested
