Анотація: The man-made famine of 1932-3 in Soviet Ukraine claimed the lives of millions of people. Yet it has remained veiled in obscurity. The Soviet authorities have continued to deny that a famine occurred. In the west, few outside the Ukrainian community and a narrow group of Soviet specialists had heard about this tragedy. Undoubtedly one of the main reasons for the lack of public awareness about the events of the famine has been the absence of a critical body of scholarship.
